I thought of the idea this morning as I was getting myself ready for church. I had to retouch my curls, so I turned on my flat iron while I got my clothes ready. I had forgotten, however, that the jumpsuit I wanted to wear was wrinkled pretty bad. I didn't know where the iron was, but my straightener was ready to go, so I decided to take my chances! Turns out, it works wonders!
It was actually very simple. First, I looked online for the heat of normal clothing irons. It's about 356-428 °F (180–220 °C). Because of my hair type, I normally set my flat iron to 380° so it was perfect. Keep in mind that the temperature depends on the clothing material. You don't want to burn your clothes!
Next, I Googled if ironing your clothes this way was even possible. I didn't want to seem crazy! Luckily, I found another blogger who tried it out so I'm not the only one.
After making sure it worked, I grabbed my jumpsuit and hung it up on a floating shelf in my bathroom so it didn't drag on the floor. I've never ironed my clothes (I haven't needed to), so this was new territory for me. I've watched my parents iron their clothes before with steam, and obviously flat irons don't have a steam setting, so I used my misting spray bottle instead! I sprayed the jumpsuit from about a foot away so it wouldn't get soaked, then flattened out the wrinkles. The whole process took me about 15 minutes. Not bad for my first try!
