Stepping Out of the Box ~ My Makeup Experience

Updated: Mar 30, 2022

If you're anything like me and have never had experience with makeup products, this post is for you. I have had little exposure to the makeup world and, honestly, I had no idea how great I could look until I tried it. The face in the mirror was one I'd never seen.

How did this happen?

A few weeks ago my host-sister from France asked if she could put makeup on me. She gets up extra early to "put her face on" before school and seemed to be good at it, so I had no objection. It wasn't until this past Sunday that she cashed in on her offer.

I was quick to give her the thumbs up and, before I knew it, I had all kinds of brushes swiped across my face.

Products Used

Eyebrows: Benefit ~ Clear Eyebrow Gel

Eye-liner: Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW ~ Waterproof ~ Ebony

Mascara: Maybelline ~ Eyelash Sensational

Concealer: Tarte

Bronzer: Benefit ~ Cheerleaders ~ Bronze Palette (Hoola Caramel)

Powder: Maybelline ~ Fit Me

How was the process?

It was one of the weirdest things I've ever experienced. I was calm when she blended in the stuff (I don't know what it's called), but when she started on the mascara? I hated it. That was easily the worst part.

I'm not sure why, but I'm completely comfortable putting my finger in my eye. Put anything else in there and I can't sit still! That includes eye drops and, apparently, mascara wands. Obviously, it wasn't directly in my eyes, but the pull on my eyelid was very uncomfortable. Plus, they kept watering because I had to keep them open for so long.

The Big Reveal

When my face was finished, my host-sister snapped a photo of me. I was incredibly anxious to see myself. Do I look weird? Will I like it? Will I hate it? All of my questions were answered when she turned her phone for me to see. Please excuse my messy hair!

I was, and still am, extremely pleased with how it turned out. Still, it doesn't make me want to get up an hour earlier to do it myself or have someone else do it for any occasion. It was more of an experiment.

Would I recommend it?

YES! If one of your family members or friends wants to try putting makeup on you for fun, I say go right ahead. Even if you don't like it, at least you know that style isn't for you. And you didn't have to do any work!
